Workshop on MIND (Mindfulness Into Nature Dimension)
– Understanding the Nature of the Mind

Description

State-based mindfulness practices are wonderful for soothing the nervous system and steadying the mind. This workshop explores a parallel route—one where the goal is not merely a peaceful state, but the joy of clear understanding.

Fostering pleasant mind states can bring comfort, but observing the true nature of mind states brings lasting freedom. As we observe thoughts and emotions arising and dissolving as non-self processes, the friction of personal ownership dissolves with them.

Here, mindfulness evolves beyond managing our mental climate. It becomes a direct route to the quiet, enduring happiness that comes from seeing the nature of things as they truly are.

Objectives:
To examine the true nature of our daily experience through mindfulness, fostering deeper Right Understanding.

Designed to be flexible and interactive, the course adapts to how participants process the material in real time. Depending on the group's engagement, the session thoughtfully balances deep-dive lectures, direct practice, peer discussions, and Q&A to ensure maximum insight.

Trainer:
Hor Tuck Loon (何德麟)
An ardent practitioner of mindfulness for over 40 years who had the opportunity to practice under Sayadaw U Tejaniya's guidance since 2006 with much more clarity of how the mind works, Teacher Hor was inspired to bring the teaching to many others.

Starting out with a small community, Teacher Hor has been passionately sharing a multi-angle approach to mindfulness, and offers participants a unique path to unravel the workings of our own minds.

His style of pointing and sharing provokes reflection and discussion through various courses, workshops and retreats. Using mindfulness+wisdom as a tool, he skillfully guides participants into understanding how recognizing the mechanics of the mind brings about freedom, peace and release from mental stress, no matter which level they are at.

Teacher Hor has since 2016 been invited to conduct talks, workshops and retreats regularly in Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Turkey and Vietnam. His weekly online sessions have reached a much broader audience from Australia, the U.K, U.S and elsewhere during the 2020 global pandemic, which has in turn helped many find refuge during a challenging period.

With his passion to bring the right mindfulness teaching to more people, Teacher Hor has also participated in publication works, such as “Letting Everything Become Your Teacher” and “Arriving At Your Own Door” (Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn), and Sayadaw U Tejaniya's series “Don’t look down on defilement”, “Awareness alone is not enough” and “Dhamma everywhere”.

Part of his talks and sharing can be found on www.illusiontoreality.com & soundcloud.com/hortuckloon

Facilitators:
Hue Fui Sun (丘慧珊)
Working in digital banking, Hue Fui Sun has spent her free time over the past 10 years providing live interpretation for Teacher Hor’s retreats across Mainland China and Hong Kong. Through years of close collaboration, the two have developed exceptional chemistry—allowing Fui Sun to fully internalize the teachings and convey them accurately in clear, accessible language. She also keenly perceives participants' blind spots, voicing their most core questions on their behalf.

Khan Hui Yee (簡慧儀)
A full-time practitioner who has followed Teacher Hor for many years, Hui Yee is currently the General Project Manager of the WISE community. Through long-term practice, she has personally verified many insights and wisdoms of Vipassana (insight meditation) and is able to share the key elements of practice systematically and with exceptional clarity. Over the past two years, when Teacher Hor goes abroad for year-end retreats, she has also been responsible for leading the WISE community's bi-weekly wisdom sharing sessions.
